Patanjali Yoga Sutra 2.3

Chanting the Yoga Sutra of Maharishi Patanjali serves as a profound practice with roots in ancient oral traditions. When engaging in this practice, we traverse the depths of interpretation, moving from written forms to the essence of vocal expression. Chanting not only involves our vocal apparatus but also serves as a gateway to the eternal present moment.

Unlike writing, which introduces a temporal gap between inscription and reading, chanting demands our immediate presence. Through this active participation, we immerse ourselves in the now, requiring undivided attention at a physical level to connect with the resonance of the spoken words.

Within the realm of chant, different forms exist, ranging from external vocalization to the most subtle mental recitation. While writing represents the grossest form of articulation, chanting at a mental level stands as the subtlest approach, demanding a profound understanding of the practice.

By chanting the sutras, we align ourselves with the present moment, vibrating in resonance with the sacred words. This process allows us to transition towards an internal chant, where sound is purely perceived within the mind, leading us towards the pursuit of perfect sound.
